Path of Exile is a Diablo-esque action RPG where players can create their character and embark on an adventure full of action and danger in the world Wraeclast, where you have been exiled and must learn to survive.
The character classes that you can choose from are prowler, ranger, sorcerer, duelist, templar and shadow. Each style has its own set of abilities, and, most importantly, their own way into the massive tree of skills that you will improve as you gather experience.
Although the game shares some significant aesthetic similarities to Diablo II, the game offers a far more complex mechanic every step of the way. Both the character development, which offers hundreds of possibilities, and the item customization, that allows you to perform authentic actions with the objects you encounter.
Besides the solo campaign, which itself holds hundreds of hours of entertainment, the game comes with a duel system where you can play against other players in battle arenas, so you can see who is the strongest among all your friends.
Path of Exile is a brutal RPG in every sense of the word. Not only does it offer hundreds of hours of completely free game play (you heard right, it's free!), but it also has outstanding game mechanics and graphics that rival the giants of the genre. That's why it has no need to envy Diablo III.
